07/16/2010 James Lusk - Very close by and very quick to respond. Have
had him three times for miscellaneous issues - capacitor blew on outside
unit, squirrel cage disintegrated on inside air handler, and outside
units needed leveling from ground settling. During one visit he noted
one bedroom had insufficient air flow - suggested a new "run" directly
from the air handler - made the connection, ran the pipe, cut the
hardwood floor, supplied the metal trim and an air deflector all for
$150. Good guy.

09/01/2011 My upstairs unit quit on us the evening of August 30. I
looked on this site and chose Steve Smith because of the recommendations
listed. Steve said he would be here by 10:00 the next morning, but
called to say he would be delayed until 12:00 due to a family member
being hospitalized. He showed up just before 12:00, diagnosed and fixed
the problem in less than 20 minutes, charged what I considered
reasonable and made a friend for life. Good man!

07/05/2011 Our upstairs air conditioner broke down on the evening of
July 4. I call Steve Smith at 7 pm, he said that he would be at my house
by noon on July 5, and he was. He had the unit running in about 20
minutes, charged $80 for labor plus cost of parts. Took his time to
explain what caused the problem and I will use him again, if necessary.

11/23/2010 Steve Smith came today to repair a motor in our handler.
Excellent work, reasonable charge. He has done a lot of work for us,
including installation of two new heat pumps, correction of "Dirty Sock
Syndrome," and replacement of the original thermostat. Very nice, honest
and capable.

07/08/09 Air handle preventive maintenance. Very reasonable. Came when
he said he would. Also took the time to answer all our questions and
concerns regarding our air handlers. Will use again for maintenance
and/or if we need new equipment.
2007 Steve
and his sons David and Luke replaced our outside unit for the lower A/C
and the air handler for the upstairs unit. They were polite,
professional, prompt and excellent in their field. We highly recommend
them.
8/13/2006: On one of the hottest days of last week our Heat Pump Unit died. Steve
came in early the following morning, and within five minutes had fixed
the problem (capacitor) - and checked the whole unit. His attitude and
work were exemplary. I would recommend this tradesman to anyone.
6/15/2006: We received prompt, efficient service after hours for a
reasonable price. We are very pleased with their service.
5/5/2006: Smith and son have done some work on our AC systems over the years
(including when Steve worked for Pittman), and we have been totally
satisfied. I also recommended them to a new neighbor and they told me how
pleased they were with his work and reasonable charge. Smith Air Masters
are experts on all the Trane systems including the old variable speed
Trane 1500 condenser.
4/20/2006 . I ran across the most honest, reliable
HVAC folks about five years ago -- they REPAIR, not just replace --
unless it's needed. They even went so far as to retrofit a part to make
it work when our unit went down. They are 100% and as good as they come.

who will pick up or deliver individuals to the airports on weekends, but Keowee
Key resident, Kathy Schill, will do so anytime between Friday afternoon
and Sunday evening. Well-known and trusted at Keowee Key for her housekeeping
and personal assistance services, she drives the client in his or her car,
delivers him to the departure gate, and picks him up at the baggage exit upon
his return. She charges $30 per hour for her services. If the client wishes, she
will also grocery-shop, clean his home or wash his car for him in his absence. I
have used Ms. Schill for this purpose and found her to be a a skillful and
prudent driver

dishwasher that was overflowing. Called AA Appliances and scheduled the
APPT. Tech was over an hour late without a phone call after trying to
contact several times he finally returned my call and was very rude.
Came to the house said the part had to be ordered and it would take two

called to ask about the status he said he would have it in a day or two

11/05/2011 We had a problem with the ice maker on our refrigerator. Call
Landreth's, they came the next day, fixed the problem is less than an
hour, cleaned up after their work and the charge was very reasonable.
I recommend them very highly. He even called the next day to see
if the ice maker was working properly.

07/20/2010 We called Seneca Appliance for a
Wash Machine repair. Brad came out, said he fixed the machine and
charged us $184.00. A week later the same problem occurred. Brad
returned several days later and made another fix. No charge this time.
Two weeks later the same problem occurred. We called Seneca Appliance
and they indicted that Brad would call back immediately. It is now a
week later and we have not had the courtesy of a return phone call. The
original problem is still there. I called and they said they were really
busy. Too busy, I guess to return phone calls.

promised. They are very accommodating and I was totally satisfied with

11/21/2007 This shop replaced the rear bumper on our Toyota Camry.
We called on Monday, brought the car in at 9:00 AM Tuesday, and it was ready and
perfect at noon on Wednesday. Cost seemed reasonable. The shop was clean,
quite large, and appeared well equipped to handle major collision work. Randall
Spearman looked up info on computer in minutes and was a pleasure to deal with.

6/7/2007: Just
had a very pleasant experience with a contractor and wanted to share it.
We were interested in getting some new blinds for our downstairs as they
didn't work properly and contacted Blinds and Us, formerly Blinds Are Us.
The owner, Harold Mahaffey came out to measure them and instead of trying
to sell us a house full of blinds and new products, he very nicely
suggested that we look through all of our blinds and he would send out
his installer to repair those and any others that needed repair for a
truly nominal amount. He wasn't trying to sell us anything we didn't
need- quite a switch, ey? We will be redoing the lower level soon and
will DEFINITELY have him redo all the window treatments at that time.
Since our house has all wood blinds, he even made recommendations -
suggesting at times, to even keep most. It is refreshing to have an
honest salesperson/contractor/owner. He is very knowledgeable- so if you
need any new blinds or any window fashions, don't hesitate to call him.
His installer called us within 2 hours of his leaving to set up an
appointment!! Great service. His place is right next to Copper Grill in
Seneca.

08/05/2010 The Arnold Corporation, Cory, Gloria, and Dave Arnold, built
our home in Spinnaker Cove which we occupied in May 2008. The house was
finished a full month before originally promised with only a few minor
problems during construction. (It wouldn't be any fun if it went totally
smooth.) The Arnolds were very cooperative and extra fast in response to
these small problems, our numerous questions ant the three changes we
made to the design. We have had no problems since we moved in two years
ago. (We know, its hard to believe.) We still get together with the
Arnolds quite often socially and consider them good friends which is the
best measure of how satisfied we are. We have repeatedly recommended the
Arnolds to others who were looking for a great contractor to build their
home or to make large changes to their existing home.

08/05/2010 We interviewed several contractors over the years before we
built and always came back to The Arnold Company. It was the best
decision we could have made! Dave made the whole home-building process
from design to finishing painless. His crews were top notch, the quality
was excellent, and even my husband (who is the PICKIEST perfectionist !)
pronounced the job first rate. Dave helped us stay well within our
budget without sacrificing quality, and we could not be more pleased
with our new home...it is better than we could have imagined! We are so
glad that we went with a solid, established and educated builder; the
custom experience is well worth the peace of mind and quality outcome!
Some others who built at the same time as us chose contractors who gave
them a lower price, but they ended up having allowances that weren't
sufficient and had to spend more unexpectedly anyway...or chose
contractors who are no longer in business because they were unable to
sustain their businesses with such low margins. We would definitely

04/12/2011 We can recommend George as a general contractor. George, a
resident of Keowee Key, is also a principal in the firm of Cottingham &
Bolen and via that capacity has access to highly qualified tradesmen
with which to tackle just about any general contracting or
home-improvement need. His work for us consisted of entirely re-doing
the front yard, walkways, and entrance area to the front of our home.
All the work, which also necessitated stump removal and re-grading of
the yard, was done to our satisfaction and completed in less than three
weeks from start to finish. We had only a conceptual plan of what we
wanted as a finished product and George and his people were very helpful
with advice and suggestions in “fleshing out” our idea. George's was not
the lowest bid for the work, but as with most things “you get what you
pay for.”

basement and under-stair storage area to add a bedroom, a full bath, and
a short hallway. It was a difficult layout but was creatively conceived
and designed. There was good communication - great attention to detail -
and no short cuts were taken. Only trusted sub-contractors were used and
due to their availability, inevitably, there were some minor delays, but
we were always kept well informed. The cost was competitive and
acceptable to us.

when I wanted to add crown molding to my existing cherry cabinets and
could not match the wood via usual channels. Nathan does custom cabinet

07/01/2009 If you are not going to be onsite to supervise John, then you may
want to find another contractor. I hired John twice; the first time my
tenant said he was terrible but I didn't listen. I hired him again a
year later and was left "speechless" just like he promised. He paper
over soiled wallpaper and now the stain is bleeding through, did not
paint the garage door as agreed to, failed to replace wallboard, just
painted over, never replaced the wood on a window, used untreated
lumber in repairing a deck (and the rails are now buckling and rotting),
used deck paint on the outside of the house, failed to repair the
flashing by the roof, didn't remove the rust by the chimney, or the stain
on the vinyl in the storage room, etc. I'll be glad to show you "John's
work" so you can decide for yourself. John promised to come back but
never did. He failed to return the phone calls until I called from
another number, that's when I was able to reach him. He finally

Scott to repair a landing down by the lake that was in poor shape, and
steps leading down to our dock. He responded to our first call and
quickly gave us an estimate based on our initial discussion. After
further reflection and input from Scott, we decided to have him
construct a deck to replace the landing and to build it with composite
materials. Scott started the project on time and completed it within a
few days of the agreed completion date. A materials ordering issue
caused the brief delay and he kept us fully informed. He also brought
the project in at the budgeted amount. We are very pleased with the work
done by Scott and Cedarlane Construction. He delivered on what he
promised, did it within the time frame we anticipated, and was flexible
in handling some additional tasks that occurred during the course of

07/01/2009 If you are not going to be onsite to supervise John, then you may
want to find another contractor. I hired John twice; the first time my
tenant said he was terrible but I didn't listen. I hired him again a
year later and was left "speechless" just like he promised. He paper
over soiled wallpaper and now the stain is bleeding through, did not
paint the garage door as agreed to, failed to replace wallboard, just
painted over, never replaced the wood on a window, used untreated
lumber in repairing a deck (and the rails are now buckling and rotting),
used deck paint on the outside of the house, failed to repair the
flashing by the roof, didn't remove the rust by the chimney, or the stain
on the vinyl in the storage room, etc. I'll be glad to show you "John's
work" so you can decide for yourself. John promised to come back but
never did. He failed to return the phone calls until I called from
another number, that's when I was able to reach him. He finally removed
the trash he left in my driveway but never returned to complete the job
that I paid him in full. I cannot recommend him.

No job is seemingly too big for John and his very dependable crew
and they will consider smaller jobs also. Over the past several years,
they have re-roofed and repainted our home as well as replaced windows,
doors and windows. In addition they have rebuilt and resurfaced our

Russell Marcengill’s Ardium Painting Services this past week to repaint the
exterior of our home. I cannot imagine anyone using any other firm than his and
highly recommend that he be first on the list of painters you consider for your
painting needs. From his prompt response to my first call requesting an estimate
to the completed job was a textbook example of professionalism and a desire to
do the very best work possible. He offered suggestions , critiqued when
requested and is extremely friendly and easy to work with. His crew is hard
working , thorough , friendly and seem to almost never take a break of any
duration even in our current weather conditions. They went well beyond what I
had expected in preparing the house for painting with the amount of washing,
caulking and minor but important repair work on some woodpecker and squirrel
intrusion points. Cleanup was also A-l. Oh yes, I should mention the price was
very reasonable for the amount and quality of the work performed. It was a
pleasure working with Russell and his crew and if the current star rating
allowed for 6 or more I would gladly assign them more than 5. As a side note to
those who feel that Chick's Painting is topnotch (which it may well be) let me
say only that it took several calls from me to have them come to prepare an
estimate. I was asked almost no questions regarding our wishes , had to
volunteer almost everything and got the ! distinct impression that he was only
mildly interested in the job. I never received the promised call with an

throughout. He charged a little more, but is well worth it.

08/21/2010 Harold painted the entire outside of my home and outside decks and
many inside rooms including the cathedral ceiling. He also built beautiful
shelving for my laundry area. His painting work is meticulous. He was careful to
get the exact color I needed, even when it required creating a new color to meet
my preferences. He also installed some outdoor paddle fans on my outside decks.
He noticed a screen door was hanging crooked and adjusted it to hang straight.
He replaced a rubber seal on my garage door. He notices what isn't working right
and offers to correct it. He is a hard and efficient worker and his labor rate
is very reasonable. He is a joy to have around. He cleans up after himself and
leaves the work area spotless each day even while the work is in progress. I

01/09/2012 We had a very bad experience with John Wiggins. He called us
for a job. Price was very low. He insisted that we use Glidden rather
than Behr paint. He did no prep. work. The paint did not cover in 2
coats. We hired another painter to prep walls and to put a 3rd coat on
the walls but green is still showing through. Now we will have to hire a
3rd painter to use 2 coats Behr on walls and 2 on the woodwork. The 1st
estimate to do that by Dan Cappelin was $910 which is more than we can
afford after already spending $340! I had called 2 references but John
did their exteriors-not interiors. I learned a big lesson. Don't go with
the first estimate which was so low that I hired John Wiggins on the
spot. Don't hire a painter without checking the ratings on this website.

12/02/2007 We have used Tom McEwen for all of our tree
work (probably 5 or 6 times), felling, de-limbing, neatening since we moved here
8+ years ago and think highly of him and his crews. Very safety conscious,

08/11/2009 In addition to what others have written, Mac donates the
felled trees to people who need wood to burn for heat. Also, his rates
are very reasonable.
08/06/2008 We recently had to have a large 90 foot oak tree
removed due to a lightning strike. We got several estimates and in my
opinion Mack Turpin's estimate was the lowest considering that he took
the tree down in sections and did not let the tree fall and potentially
cause damage to our or our neighbor's house or adjacent trees and
plants. Mack showed up when expected and cleaned up so well you could
hardly tell than any work had been done other than the remaining stump.
He also removed a large oak branch hanging over our garage and cleaned

compatible (no charge). I use her only 2 hrs/month at this time (so
small jobs are not a problem): 1st to weed, then to help determine
landscaping (what to take out & what to put in). Will be doing pruning

07/15/2010 I highly recommend Kay Wade with Professional
Gardening Services for small to large landscape project; from on-going, routine
maintenance to landscape projects. Kay worked with us this summer to re-do our
plantings in front of the house--everything from planning to installation;
including transplanting existing bushes, irrigation, landscape lighting,
installing a large urn style fountain and construction of a copper trellis for "vining"
clematis. Kay also maintains existing landscaping with a loving touch: weeding,
planting flowers, trimming, etc. She did quite a bit of trimming and brush
removal in the wooded area behind our house. Kay is knowledgeable, conscientious
and detail oriented. She is pleasant to work with and has taken a genuine
personal interest in our projects. We're having her return in the fall for
further work.

03/20/2009 Heather Jeffcoat, owner/operator of Nature's Way is a very hard working
young lady. I use her on a regular basis on my yard maintenance needs. I have a
very difficult lot (as some of us do) and she tackles the challenges, no matter
what they are. Whatever your needs are from mulch spreading, blowing-removing
leaves/fallen limbs, weed control to new planting, she is the one to call.
Heather takes pride in her work, is very reasonably priced, and has insurance as
well. She is a fairly new resident to Salem and would like to stay in this area
and offer her 6-8 years of yard experience.
